Proceed below for small breakdowns on each team last season and the all-time histories vs FSU.
-New Haven Chargers (NE-10) (8-3 in 2022)
- The New Haven Chargers of New Haven, Connecticut are members of the Northeast-10 Conference, similar to last season's opener American International. The Chargers participated in the Division II Football Playoffs last season as the seventh and final seed in Super Region I. Their season ended traveling to Shepherd where they took their playoff game against the Rams down to the wire, barely dropping the matchup by a score of 16-13. This will be the first ever matchup between the two programs, and FSU is 1-0 all-time against NE-10 opponents.
-Wheeling Cardinals (7-4 in 2022)
- The Cardinals powered past FSU last season in Wheeling by a score of 31-27, which was the first loss in all-time history to Wheeling. FSU is 3-1 all-time against the Cardinals, this will mark the third road matchup in series history as well. In last season's loss, FSU held a 24-14 lead with three minutes remaining until halftime, however the Cardinals would 14 points in those final moments to take a 28-24 lead at the half. Two traded field goals in the third would present a tight fourth quarter, but FSU would suffer an interception on the final drive of the game and Wheeling would hang on to claim a 31-27 victory.
-West Liberty Hilltoppers (4-7 in 2022)
-The Hilltoppers return to Frostburg for the 2023 home opener, after FSU made their first ever visit to the Hilltop a season ago and secured a 28-23 victory in the finale of the 2022 season. A cold and rainy afternoon saw the FSU defense come up with three turnovers, including a scoop and score fumble. The upcoming matchup will be the third of the four modern matchups taking place at Bobcat Stadium. The win last season put the all-time matchup history to 5-3-1 in favor of FSU.
-Alderson Broaddus Battlers (0-11 in 2022)
-The early season road matchups continue as FSU returns to Philippi in the 2023 season to take on the Battlers after a 58-7 drumming last season at Bobcat Stadium. FSU racked up 536 total yards of offense last season against AB, and also forced three turnovers. FSU is 3-0 all-time against AB, and in three matchups, FSU has held the Battlers to only 14 total points and 359 total offensive yards in the entire series.
-Notre Dame College Falcons (9-3 in 2022)
-Notre Dame College returns to the schedule this season after another successful 2022 campaign which saw them capture the 2022 MEC Title outright, and enter the NCAA Division II Playoffs as the five seed. Their season ended in a first round loss to the in-state rival Ashland Eagles, 20-13 on the road. FSU captured their first ever win over NDC at home last season, 33-30 in double OT in an instant classic. The win at the time downed the #16 Falcons, which was also FSU's first win over a Division II ranked opponent and the first since the 2018 season. FSU is 1-3 all-time against NDC.
-UNC Pembroke (5-6 in 2022) (2023 Homecoming Matchup)
-After last seasons matchup saw heavy influence due to Hurricane Ian, which moved the game from a Saturday afternoon to a Thursday night, FSU looks for revenge after a 10-9 loss to the Braves. The loss saw UNCP holding FSU to just a total of 240 offensive yards. FSU would have a chance to win, however kicking the winning FG into high winds kept the kick from gaining any distance. UNCP is in the midst of a regime change, bringing in Mark Hall to take charge from Chowan. The all-time series is tied 2-2.
-Concord Mountain Lions (9-2 in 2022)
-A surprising step forward was the story behind Concord a season ago. The high flying CU offense would go on to post scoring marks of 58, 50, 62, and 68 in their run which fell just short of an NCAA Playoff berth. The matchup last season at Bobcat Stadium saw Concord narrowly escape with a 23-22 victory. FSU would score as time expired in the fourth quarter to make it 23-22, setting up for an extra point to send the game intp OT. However a botched hold would cost FSU the tie and the contest and CU would win it 23-22. FSU is 2-1 all-time against CU.
-Charleston (WV) Golden Eagles (6-5 in 2022)
-Charleston took a small step back in 2022, with a first year Head Coach in Quinn Sanders taking over in 2022. A thriller in the capitol of WV last season saw FSU grab a 34-28 victory. FSU racked up over 500 yards of offense and snatched four defensive takeaways in the victory. Charleston (WV) returns to Frostburg for the first time since the 2021 instant classic between these two which saw FSU get a double overtime victory. FSU sits 3-0 all-time against UCWV.
-West Virginia State Yellow Jackets (7-4 in 2022)
-WVSU closed out their season winning three of four, but the Yellow Jackets look to make a jump in 2023 towards the top of the MEC. Last season saw FSU get the win 18-7 in a defensive slugfest. Both teams barely broke 200 yards of offense on each side, but FSU's downhill running for 215 yards as the game changer as well as the Bobcats dominating the time of possession 41:25 to just 18:29 for WVSU. FSU is 2-1 all-time against WVSU.
-Glenville State Pioneers (7-4 in 2022)
-Glenville State returns to the schedule for the first time since 2019 and will be making their first ever visit to Bobcat Stadium, marking the last team in the MEC to do so. West Virginia Wesleyan has come off the schedule to make room for this matchup. In the first and only matchup in 2019, GSU narrowly defeated FSU 10-7 in Glenville. Both teams struggled offensively, neither side broke 200 yards of offense. A 10 yard touchdown pass in the third downed FSU. GSU leads the all-time series 1-0.
-Fairmont State Fighting Falcons (3-8 in 2022)
-A program built on success is looking to reverse its fortunes in 2023, after a three win campaign marked their lowest total since 2014. This backyard rivalry returns to Fairmont State on a Thursday night after Frostburg State won a televised game under the lights on a Thursday night a year ago, 16-14. That scoreline was the lowest from the Bobcats against Fairmont, as Frostburg scored 90 points in the two other victories. Frostburg State is 3-0 all-time vs Fairmont State.
